The flagship of the Rascioni and Cecconello winery.
Since 1988 the Rascioni and Cecconello winery has been the first producer of pure and organic Ciliegiolo.
We have always believed in the potential of this grape variety and have worked hard to turn it into a wine of excellence. With the creation of Poggio Ciliegio, the dream of taking Rascioni e Cecconello’s wines beyond national borders was realized.
In fact, after the launch of Poggio Ciliegio in 1988, the Rascioni e Cecconello winery’s ciliegiolo quickly conquered the wine world, earning prestigious awards from renowned wine guides such as Robert Parker, the Wine Spectator and the L’Espresso Guide. The celebrated Luigi Veronelli praised Poggio Ciliegio, awarding it the “Sole Veronelli” and visiting the winery and its founders, Paolino Cecconello and Vinicia Rascioni, several times.
Also confirming the excellent quality of our cherry vine and wine is the University of Pisa, which since the 1990s began research under the leadership of Professor Scalabrelli. Initially, the focus was on studying our scions, work that helped define the quality and authenticity of our wines. Today, we continue to conduct extensive research and field experiments to deepen our knowledge and improve the production of this extraordinary native grape variety.
Our wines
IGT Toscana Ciliegiolo 100%
It is made by vinifying cherry grapes from the oldest vineyards 45 years old in concrete tanks.
After vinification, passage in large unroasted 5 hl barrels for 12 months takes place. Then assembled in cement vats and aged in bottles.
Pairings: meat dishes such as tenderloin, cut, game.
IGT Toscana Ciliegiolo 100%, fresh wine.
Made from ciliegiolo grapes from vineyards younger than 35 years of age. Vinified and aged in concrete tanks and bottled the following spring.
Pairings: all meat dishes with quick cooking, game-based first courses, cold cuts, cured meats and hard cheeses. Oily fish also goes well with this wine. As proposed by well-known restaurateurs in our area!
DOC Maremma Toscana Sangiovese 100%
A very nice wine with ready drinking, but joyful and full satisfaction. A Sangiovese base to which Ciliegiolo is blended, both vinified separately in concrete tanks. We find it on the market in bottles as early as March.
Pairings: all meat dishes cured meats and cheeses.
IGT Toscana Vermentino 100% Vermentino.
Wine that is very successful for its notes of white-fleshed fruit, tropical fruit, and good persistence.
Pure winemaking is the hallmark of our winery to respect the full ripeness of the grapes. Peculiar not only in type, but also in the different exposure and slope of the vineyard.
Pairings: raw seafood and fish dishes.
IGT Toscana Rosato 100% Ciliegiolo
Rascioni and Cecconello’s first rosé is balanced, fresh, elegant and with good persistence.
OSA Rosé, IGT Toscana Rosato, is a wine that is very successful for its notes of small red berries, morello cherry, currant, raspberry and citrus nuances of pink grapefruit.
Food pairings: fish appetizers, shellfish, seafood, and white meats.
IGT Toscana Vermentino 100% Vermentino.
Rascioni and Cecconello’s blend of ansonica, vermentino and trebbiano grapes is balanced, elegant and has good persistence.
Pairings: desserts, medium-aged cheeses with jam or honey.
